Be, do and have

Recently I read this mantra and following quote.

Be, do and have –

“Often people attempt to live their lives backwards: they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want so they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then do what you love to do, in order to have what you want.”   — Margaret Young

The formula for success is Be, Do, Have. If we seek abundance, we must be abundant in spirit. We can begin to cultivate spiritual wealth by opening our hearts in gratitude.

I have been very lucky in my life to be where I am today.  Not everyday or year has been a bed of roses.   Some have been very difficult and trying but when I look at my life with a heart of gratitude I realize it is not all that bad.

Why then am I still going out and buying things?  Do I really need new ??? Not really.  Goal 2 for me is to give up buying and doing things.  I will be expanding on this soon with a real plan, but this weekend I tried to go without opening my computer the whole weekend.  I know this isn’t buying something, but it is giving something up that I am very used to doing.  I got through the weekend though it was hard while it sat right in front of me waiting to be opened and perused.

This act and goal during this past weekend is important to me because sometimes my wife thinks I spend too much time checking email, writing on, researching things.  So I devoted the entire weekend to being at the house, reading, talking, cooking and spending time with her.  At times it was hard. It was all I could do not to open the computer and do some work.  But in the end on Monday morning not that much was missed and I feel refreshed and ready for this week.
