My Journey / Joe Van Deuren

Daily reflection

Rocky Reflection at Lake LouiseThis weekend I took off from all physical activity, less the lawn mowing and there was that one 5 mile bike ride.  But other than that not too much.  I spent the weekend working on some writing, planning, reading and time with Karen, my wife.  This made me stop to think that I have not had much to say about the books I am reading.  The one I am reading at this time is called: Awakening the Buddhist Heart.

One of the suggestions that it makes is that we reflect on four basic thoughts on a daily basis.  These thoughts will help us sort out our values and priorities and become more conscientious about our spiritual practice.

  1. I have been blessed with a life in which I can do many things to further my own happiness and the happiness of those around me.
  2. Life is short: there is no time to waste.
  3. The journey through life isn’t supposed to be easy; it’s supposed to be real.
  4. Our karma is the one thing that we carry with us always.

As I try this practice I would be encouraged to see your thoughts on these reflections.  I will try to express mine here over the next few months.
This is a new week and so the physical has started back up with a great weight lifting session this morning and of course my own 300 push ups and sit ups along with all the other things we are working on.  My body is feeling better this week and I hope to keep it that way.
